Po's Dumpling Bar

For any of you who followed KC Dining Extravaganza, you might understand how much I love Po's Dumpling Bar. For those of you who weren't followers if KCDE, Let me review Po's one more time. Po's is quite honestly one of my favorite restaurants in town. I like it so much in fact, that I have declared on more than one occasion that I want to have my wedding there. Located on 39th Street just west of Bell this family run restaurant hits the spot when you are craving Chinese food. The entrees are fresh and amazing. You can tell that everything is home cooked as taste my vary slightly from time to time, but it is always delicious. Typically instead of ordering entrees, we just order a bunch of appetizers (approx. 2 per person will do the trick). Don't get me wrong, the entrees are very good (I recommend the Chicken in Yu Shang Sauce), but the appitizers are much better. Just ordering off of the appitizer menu has gotten us mocked by the staff a few times, but it is totally worth it. Everything has so much flavor, that I typically don't even need to use the soy sauce that it brought to the table. Items I recommend are the Pan Fried Onion Cakes, Cha Su Buns, any of the pan fried or steamed dumplings, Shu-Mai, and the Sesame Balls (pictured). Be careful when eating the Sesame Balls, as they are very hot on the inside. The roof of my mouth hurt for a week after I burnt it on them. Also, please note that they have many items not listed on the on-line menu. You just need to go in and try out Po's for yourself.

For dessert, we used to walk the half block to D'bronx for cake after dinner at Po's. However this is no longer a tradition because we have discovered the sweet apple dumpling on the desert menu. A cripsy dumpling with an apple filling and absolutely covered in powder sugar. Amazing. Definitely a must order item for every trip to Po's.

Jack Stack Barbecue

Jack Stack is a good standby for a delicious, upscale barbecue place. The barbecue is good and the sides are amazing. This time, I had something I had never tried before. As a matter of fact, I had never even seen it on the menu before. (I'm not saying that it wasn't on there, I'm just saying that I had never noticed it on the menu before) It was the barbecue baked potato, which unfortunately is only available for lunch. This is as amazing as it sounds. A baked potato with brisket, cheese, sour cream and barbecue sauce. I was a little leery about the barbecue sauce and the sour cream together, but it was a perfect taste combination and the brisket was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend it if you will be there for lunch. If you are going for dinner, your loss. Okay, you will just have to try some of their other delicious items.



I love the atmosphere of the Freight House location and they have a large patio for those few months of the year where it is tolerable to sit outside and dine. It is close to the railroad tracks, so when the trains come through, it may be hard to hear your dining companions, but I think it adds to the atmosphere and is well worth it.

RA Sushi Bar

Okay, Let's be honest. RA isn't a Kansas City based establishment, but it was the first place we went out to eat after I decided to do this blog so I decided to review it anyway.

Overall I found it to be so-so. I've definitely had better sushi in Kansas City (I would recommend Nara instead). Pretty much everything we had was nothing special, however the spicy tuna rolls were delicious and made going to RA worthwhile.

One word of warning if you are looking for somewhere to go and have a conversation, this is not the place. We walked in at prime dining time and it was crazy loud. Luckily we weren't eating until later and it was slightly quieter then.

I really think the highlight of the evening is that when we walked out of the restaurant, there was a Lamborghini parked outside. I'm not really a car buff, but I'm not sure I've ever seen one in person. So that was cool, but I can't guarantee it will still be there to be the highlight of your trip.

Welcome to Kerry's Quest!

I have lived in Kansas City for nearly 7 years and it seems that only within the last few of those years I have started exploring the local restaurants around town. I love supporting local businesses and love finding out about new restaurants (or at least ones new to me) so I've decided to keep a blog about my food adventures in Kansas City and the surrounding areas.
I had a short lived restaurant blog earlier with a friend of mine, but that fell by the wayside as she never wrote her reviews (you know who you are) so I'm striking out on my own this time. Well, mostly my own. I'm not much of a cocktail drinker, so my wonderful boyfriend has offered his service as the guest cocktail reviewer. How very generous of him.

I also plan on reviewing local activities around town. See what is out there to do with a little spare time that is unique to Kansas City.
